oh, California.

It’s been awhile and i’ve been neglecting this site but with good reason. I’ve been busy with my unborn child. Yes, I am happy to announce we are expecting! We are overjoyed. I’ll share more pictures of my progress as my tummy gets bigger and now that I have more energy, I am feeling more inspired.

Lucas and I took a trip to California to celebrate my sister’s graduation. We also wanted to enjoy sometime with our loved ones,  to take in the beauty, and the food of home before our little one arrives. Here are some shots I took with my new Leica. I hope you enjoy and see my love of my home. It has been wonderful here in Baltimore and we are nearing 5 years. But I must say, as I am preparing myself as a new mom, I remembering where I grew up and am getting homesick.

The people, the food, the culture. It will always be home to me. Gosh, I love California.

Dress up time!

One of my favorite things to do is playing dress up. I think I got it from my older sister, Janelle who is now a fashion designer. My twin and I were always her test dummies. So last night it was a great joy being able to share that same tradition with my dearest friend, Koreana.

Thanks Koreana for letting me play Stylist/Make-up Artist/ Photog/ Big sis. <3

A Few things that have caught my eye, recently.

beauty of words

I have been immersing myself in everything that has been inspiring me lately. I can’t  help but fall in love with ways that express love that there are no words for.  But sometimes you find someone who has the ability to say things so simply yet so complex it captures things i have felt before that i couldn’t express.

I stumbled upon Shane Koyczan.  He captures love so well, its like he paints this perfect portrait of his love for this person. Whoever his muse is, they are quite lucky. Read this and enjoy:

6:59AM

I’ve been told
that people in the army
do more by 7:00 am
than I do
in an entire day

but if I wake
at 6:59 am
and turn to you
to trace the outline of your lips
with mine
I will have done enough
and killed no one
in the process.

Skin 2

I don’t imagine you
saran-wrapped in black latex
or seeping out the edges
of something tight and red

I don’t close my eyes
to dream of your back
arched at the impossible angle
of a bow pulled tight
encouraging your shoulder blades
to drip the blood
of stockpiled broken hearts
but I hope the sound
of you not shielding your eyes
from my blinding humility
will one day top the charts

it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard
and you’re the charlie chaplin of your beautifuls
because you make me believe it
when you say it all without saying a word

looking at you it occurred to me
I could sit around all day
wearing nothing but your kiss

you make mirrors
want to grind themselves
back down into sand
because they can’t do your reflection justice

and this just in
I am done with those
who in life would have made me fight
an army of imperfections
a battalion of flaws
tonight we’re going to keep this city up
when they hear our bodies
slap together like applause.

I have  been feeling this excitement for the Fall lately. I can’t wait to capture my love of all things beautiful this Fall. For those of you who know me, you know that this is my time to SHINE and have the ultimate inspiration. Its almost a physical feeling I get, this peacefulness inside of me. I can’t wait. These poems remind me of the mind-state that I have in the most beautiful time of the year.

Love,

Jamie

Summer 2011

Summer here in Baltimore is in full effect! What can i say…its been quite a summer! I’ve been super busy but have been super blessed with abundance.

I’ve really been just snapping away at everything. I haven’t done that in a long time. I’ve also recently discovered Instagram for IOS. its a great photography community, very lomo-eque in that you just take photos of everyone and everything. Here are a few shots i’ve taken recently.  If you haven’t already guessed, i’ve really fallen in love with the East Coast and Baltimore! Also, don’t foget! www.artscape.org is this weekend!! so come out, enjoy the sunshine and the bizarre art from my fellow Baltimoreans!

Enjoy!

introducing…

Mom and Dad in Chinatown

My new watermark! :)

I chose a feather as a representation of myself as a photographer because it means many different things. It’s symbol meaning deals with ascension and spiritual transcendence. It also represents air, flight, spirituality, freedom and courage. All of these things I have found in my most recent years. It definitely represents who I am today and what I want to express in my work. Photography for me has always been a way of capturing how I look at the world and the many stories I have documented over time. It’s always allowed me to search for beauty in everything and everybody.

Special thanks to Adriel Luis, the Funky Pixel for creating my watermark and this fabulous website.

I’ve been obssessed with Hipstamatic lately. Here are a few of my more recent shots.

February 12th at the Ancient Arts Wellness Center

I am pleased to announce my first gallery opening for 2011 at the Ancient Arts Wellness Center in the heart of downtown Baltimore.

I will be featuring a few pieces capturing the light and darkness in life; Yin and Yang and how in all aspects of life it is present.

This show and the Ancient Arts Wellness Center mean a lot to me. They are a center that promotes healthy and balanced living. I personally see Ellie Isaac for acupuncture at this center. She is a healer and has helped me tremendously with  living a balanced and healthy life. She’s helped me embrace and celebrate the creative drive in myself. She has come to be a very dear friend and is a part of my “Baltimore Family.”

You can find more information here about Ellie and the Ancient Arts Wellness Center.

If you are in the Baltimore-Washington area, please stop by and enjoy good food, converation and art. As well as,  check out the MAGNIFICENT work that the Ancient Arts Wellness center does on a daily basis.

Cheers!

Jamie

Artists are sentimental, child like even. It is very important to be like this... to be amazed by everything." -J.C.
